Child Safety Advocates Join to Launch Alliance for a Safe Online Future

Over a Dozen Orgs Unite to Promote Public Policy Agenda Prioritizing Kids’ Online Safety & Digital Platform Accountability

February 11, 2025 – WASHINGTON D.C. Launching at the 2025 State of the Net Conference, the Alliance for a Safe Online Future brings together more than a dozen child safety groups working to stop online harms and exploitation of children.

It's no longer a choice whether children will use the internet - it's a fact of life. And it's our responsibility to make sure they can do so safely. The Alliance for a Safe Online Future will be an online information portal to coordinate information sharing to help facilitate policy changes to hold digital platforms accountable and keep children safe from online threats like trafficking, sextortion, AI deepfakes and scams, overbroad safe harbor immunities, and lack of meaningful guardrails for AI.

“Each of the Alliance for a Safe Online Future’s members does vital work promoting children’s safety. By coming together under this one banner, we can do even more to coordinate, educate, and advance common sense policies that will make the internet safer for our children. Keeping children and young people off the internet is no longer an option– going online is part of our everyday lives. Instead, we must hold tech companies and digital platforms accountable to do more to protect kids using their services from bad actors and exploitation,” said tech policy expert, child safety advocate, and Alliance Coordinator Rick Lane.

The Alliance launched a website so parents, advocacy groups and researchers in the online child safety space can find up-to-date information on legislative and policy initiatives.
